The Child Development Center at Willow-International Community College Center is a collaborative effort between the local community college district and local school district. The Center reflects and fortifies its intent as a child dev. center, and also melds and becomes part of the community college campus. The building was inspired by the “Kaleidoscope.” The Kaleidoscope gives the viewer a window into a menagerie of color and light that evoke sensations that were incorporated into the design of the Center. Every physical element used in the classrooms is a reflection of the ergonomic needs of the children. Each classroom is designed to include a “Discovery Center” wherein lies the final fundamental element of the Center: the playground. The playground was designed to put the child into a learning environment where he can play and discover outdoors. The Child Development Center is a unique space designed with simple lines that provide a look at contemporary architecture in a personal way as part of major facility planning on a grand scale.
