Minarets Joint Union High School
Northfork, CA  -  Not Built

The site for the new Minarets High School is rolling hills with live oak trees, granite outcroppings, protected seasonal wetlands/vernal pools and challenging slopes.  The clients wish, to reduce the environmental impact of the site, was the primary challenge for master planning.  The building forms, masses, and composition are metaphoric to those found at an abandoned sawmill in a nearby town and the inherent structures of the surrounding areas.  Materials are selected to represent the indigenous qualities of the surrounding site.
