Ribbon-Cutting for the new College of Osteopathic Medicine
06/30/20

This week The California Heath Sciences University unveiled the new College of Osteopathic Medicine. Darden Architects partnered with architectural firm Dekker/Perich/Sabatini to design this amazing new project.

The California Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine is the first phase of an expansive health science education facility. With Darden Architects as the Architect of Record and Dekker/Perich/Sabatini the Design Architect, the 92,000sf, three-story, U-shaped building is situated around a large open courtyard that is used year-round by students, faculty, and staff. The facility program includes a large lobby/gathering space, admissions, library, simulation spaces, osteopathic manual manipulation lab, standardized patient clinic simulation suite, virtual and human anatomy labs, lecture halls, library, graduate medical education space, faculty offices, small group study rooms, and a number of student lounge and support spaces.

CHSU COM’s building exterior utilizes permanence of materials, but with a more modern appeal, as befits a new university campus. The overall expression comes primarily from the use of dimensional stone, brick, and aluminum glazing systems, with abundant storefront and curtainwall to admit daylight and capitalize on near and distant views. Sun control devices assist in controlling light and heat gain within the building. The color palette is both subtle and sophisticated.

Along with Darden Architects and D/P/S the project team included: Buehler Structural Engineering, Hardin Davidson Engineering, Robert Boro Landscape Architect, Blair Church & Flynn, and Lawrence Engineering Group. The General contractor was Zumwalt Construction. Special thanks to CHSU for this fantastic opportunity. We are looking forward to the positive effect that this facility will have on our community and throughout the Valley.

“Since we cannot gather in person for a large celebration with all of our partners, supporters, and the community, we hope you’ll enjoy the 15-minute video premiere honoring and recognizing the historic opening of the Valley’s NEW Medical School and its inaugural class of medical students joining us in July 2020,” said CHSU officials in an email invitation.”
